Cambodia Bound and Final Farewell Fashion Show

Soooo alot has been going on in my life regarding my adventure in fashion. I got a job working for KeoK'jay, a Cambodian fair trade fashion company, and I move January 17th. Whoa. That's in less than 2 weeks. I am so incredibly excited for this opportunity to assist the creative director in various part of the business, including teaching HIV positive women how to make the garments.

And of course what better way to leave the country and bid my loved ones adieu for who knows how long haha..than a fashion show!

Inspired by Cambodian monks, rice paddies, the Buddhist mentality to use everything at hand.

The show is a art performance conveying the injustice facing many women in poverty, who are forced into prostitution.  HIV also forces women to do terrible things just to get by.

Girl Scouts 100th Year Anniversary Final Design

So I finally finished the design for Girls Scouts, just in time for the Girl Scouts Gala!

The fabric is sourced from NearSea Naturals, which has an awesome selection of fairtrade/sustainable natural fabrics.  The digital printing is done locally at the TechStyle LAB..and the screenprinting is done by our local print shop Young's ScreenPrinting and Embroidery.

..we had a really fun photoshoot at Oak Park.  Here are the revised sketches and the final outfit.

Commission Work: Girl Scouts Design

So I have been commissiones by Girl Scouts to design an outfit for their 100th year anniversary.  It's a really fun projects..I went to their headquarters and they made me an official member! Finally a girl scout after 23 years.

I drew up 4 different outfits for them to choose from. I wanted to translate the various styles that have evolved throughout the history of Girl Scouts into a more modern outfit that can be customized with digital print technology.  Girls can choose from different graphics and colors to come up with their own outfit.

I also have bags! Basic canvas totes featuring the evolution of styles in GS throughout the years.
we'll see what the marketing team thinks..then I can start making it!

Our Lady of Guadalupe Dress cont..

With much pattern engineering the dress came out quite lovely. We included the handwritten prayer to Our Lady at the hem which sways and moves with the body. Leah's writing has become part of the fabric and makes this piece a collaboration of both our love for Mary. The roses appear from below the surface, framing our Holy Mother with a garden of cobalt blue. The lining is a prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, who we ask to defend us in battle. It is spiritual armor to be put on and worn close.

An elegant dress that delicately moves. The chiffon makes this like a dancer's dress, one to celebrate the joys of life and praise Our Lady for her blessings.
